How to Travel the World on a Shoestring Budget

There are so many reasons to get out and see the world! Whether you need a vacation from work of life, you have been learning a second language and want to put it into practice, if you took advantage for the Groupon Coupons page for 23AndMe and have discovered distant relatives living on the other side of the world.

However, as strong as these reasons to travel are, it's often financing which prevents the would-be traveler from realizing their dreams.

If this sounds like you, then this article is here to show you just how you can make the most of the budget you have to see the world!

Stick to the Bus
While your local bus may not take you much farther than a few suburbs, when it comes to Europe, a bus can take you through two or three different countries in one trip! Often for a price comparable to what you would pay at home for a short trip!

When looking at the places you would like to visit while you are away, instead of looking at flights between your destinations, instead stick to the buses and watch your dollar stretch!

Stay Away From Familiar Signs
If you are feeling hungry and you can see the logo of a familiar restaurant, steer clear! That’s right! While the food will taste similar to what you are used to and you are almost guaranteed to enjoy it, it’s going to cost the same amount as it would back home, only converted.

Instead, stick to local food. For example, if you can see a long line of obvious locals waiting for food at a street vendor then it’s a good sign that they will have good tasting and well-prepared food. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to start at the front of the line to take a look at what’s on offer, lest you arrive to place an order for something you're sure you can’t stomach.

Travel at the Right Times
There are a number of times throughout the year where seasons align and the prices of flights drop dramatically, often by half! Often being the most expensive part of international travel, allowing the airline to choose a travel date for you can be a great way to save your travel dollars.

Share Your Accommodation
If you think about partying teenagers and people far too old to be revisiting their youth, then you would be right. However, in the midst of all of the hostels which accommodate for these patrons, there will be a few gems.

These are the places which may cost a few dollars more but will ensure a comfortable stay without the traditional hostel feel. With accommodation coming in as the second most expensive item when traveling the world, keeping the costs down is a great way to extend your travel.

Just because you don’t have a large bank account doesn’t mean that the world is closed off to you, it simply means you need to get a little creative with your travel thinking and make a few compromises along the way.
